Introducing Polyphemos

poly1.jpg

Or Poly for short.

Why the name, you ask? Well, Polyphemos is the cyclops from the Odyssey. I think that pretty much explains things. Mind you, we don't intend our Poly to come to such a bad end. We'll raise him better.

We got him from the vet. He's a former barn cat of (roughly) 8 weeks old. He lost his eye in some accident, and the former owners couldn't afford the vet bills involved in fixing him up, so the vet took him to foster until he could find a home. And now he has one.

I'm sitting here listening to Dave talk to him. It's very sweet. So far, he's spent much of his time here under the bed (Poly, not Dave), with a couple of searches about the house and one stint under the couch. That last was kind of funny; we could tell exactly where he was under the couch because that's where Imogen was. She was the perfect kitten locator, nose under the couch, perpendicular to the front of it. (She's quite good at it, as you can see from the photo.)

She is, of course, adjusting better than the others. Katala is sitting in her "safe spot" under the dining room table, and Quickly is hiding behind the big, purple chair in my office. Distressed doesn't even begin to express Quickly's state of being (it's not just her mind that's freaked). Mind you, he's only been here about 45 minutes. They'll all come around before school starts, I'm sure. Probably by Monday, even.
