If You're Looking for a Birthday Present This Year...

The First Amendment Project is running their second "Your Name Here" auction.

For the record, either the Carl Hiassen or the Elinor Lipman inclusions would do. (I'd prefer to be the taxidermied rat, all things considered. But I suspect I'm not alone in that wish.)

Very Interesting. For my birthday I would like to take a quiet walk alone and then sleep. If you could swing that for me I could try to swing this for you.

Love the tiara! When my sister was in town recently I too went into an accesory store and saw them. I love tiaras but my secret dream is to wear a cape. A full on cape. Without Irony. Do you think I could bring this back into style?

Also, your talent as a storyteller and writer is very apparent in your post with the icecream story. I was engaged and laughing at the same time. One of my top ten favorite posts ever.

And once? When I said I'd track down the pretty actress in Moscow? And you retorted that you were "interesting"? bah. You are interesting and pretty. so there.

You know, when I had a job for which I was overqualified, a job I had only so I could pay the bills and eat, one where I was totally necessary but still had to deal with all kinds of shit from various and sundry people who did not deserve to be in positions of authority, I would occasionally call in sick on a Wednesday or a Thursday, simply because I felt my mental health was as vital to me as my physical health.

(Never a Monday or a Friday, though. HR departments are always on the lookout for people who call in sick just before or just after the weekend.)

It's amazing how good that was for me. I wouldn't do it now, of course, not only because I don't have either sick leave or vacation time, but also because I love what I do and because my overdeveloped sense of responsibility requires that I attend every single class I'm scheduled to teach. But you have both need and opportunity. I suggest you give yourself a little birthday treat and take Wednesday off. With pay. And a cape.

And thank you so much for the lovely compliments. I think I'm funny looking and I can't imagine anything will ever change that. But compliment my writing and I'll love you forever.
